Mining Thoughts

To parts of the outside world, Northern Minnesota is a dreamy environmental oasis with clean water, pristine streams home to trout and salmon, rare species of wildlife, Native American Indian and early settler heritages; it’s a place to camp, hike, canoe, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. So the world must wonder if Minnesota will sacrifice these increasingly rare resources for other pursuits. Today the opposition to the environment: mining jobs.

Does Minnesota (YOU!) want to increasingly encourage more people to settle in the northern or north-central regions (with the need for more jobs), or does Minnesota want to use (preserve) that land space and the natural resources for greater preservation and/or recreation? It has traditionally been used for both but this mining debate opens a bigger debate that, as land space becomes more valuable, will continue over the years to come.
