Circle Time Under the Pines: G is Getting Ready for Winter
10:30-11:30 Children 2-5 years old, come explore and have fun at Itasca as we learn about nature through stories, songs, crafts, and outdoor discovery. Bring your outdoor clothes… if weather permits, part of the program will be exploring the outdoors. NOTES: Adults must accompany children. Consider bringing a picnic lunch and enjoying your noon meal around the fireplace in the visitor center lobby after the program.

H.O.P. Into the Park: Changes in Our Coldwater Fisheries
10-12 The H.O.P. program (Healthy Older People) is offered monthly to allow older adults opportunities to socialize and learn about the natural world. In November, we will hear from Lanesboro Area Fisheries Supervisor, Vaughn Snook. Come learn how the cold water fishery of the blufflands has changed over the last 40 years.

Filters for Outdoor Photography
6-8:30 pm Join Minnesota Nature Photography Club member, Bryan Hansel, for a program on Filters for Outdoor Photography. One of the most complicated and confusing subjects in photography is filters. Questions range from what filters to buy to what situations call for a filter. Bryan will answer those questions, present his ideal filter kit recommendations for outdoor photography, and teach how, when and why to use filters. He’ll also talk about how he and Singh-Ray Filters are prototyping several new types of filters and discuss the prototyping process.

Join our experienced REI winter camping experts to learn what you need and what to expect when camping in a winter wonderland. We will cover how to plan, how to stay warm, how to select winter appropriate gear and what to expect when setting up camp and during your overnight. Snowshoe Lacing Workshop $$$
9-4 $75 registration fee. This fee includes the snowshoe kit, materials and instruction, along with coffee, tea, water, and snacks. Rubber bindings are available to purchase at the park for $5/pair. Lunch will not be provided for the weekend workshop, so attendees should bring a sack lunch. Lace your own pair of snowshoes during this two day workshop. You will be provided with the equipment and instruction needed to lace your own traditional Ojibwe-style snowshoes. Learn this skill from an experienced instructor through this hands-on and rewarding workshop. This workshop is recommended for ages 10 and up will consist of two consecutive day sessions on November 18 and November 19 from 9am to 4pm. Participants must attend both days. 1-2 Join the Naturalist for this hike to search the park and look for the vacated homes of the park?s summer residents. Learn how birds and other animals construct and furnish their summer homes. Dress for the weather and meet at the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center. Free. No registration required, but a state park permit is required on each vehicle ($7/day pass or $35 annual pass. Available at park office upon entry to park). Meet at Thomas C Savage Visitor Center (two miles from park entrance. Plan for an additional 10 minute drive through the park).
