MN Nature in St Paul, MN, wants to wish you a Happy Earth Day! Check out the free events throughout the state here. Earth Day is Sunday April 22, 2018. The theme is End Plastic Pollution. Contact your local city or neighborhood group to find events in your area, or start a clean-up or trash pick-up group of your own for your favorite park, green space, river, lake, or neighborhood!

Lake Maria Orienteering Meet $$$ Sign up by April 19
Pre-register $11: Adults $10 (Day of $15 Adults, $13 Juniors), -$3 for orienteering club members: Juniors Orienteering – a sport for families, hikers, and endurance athletes of all ages!Lake Maria is a 1756-acre park that is home to one of the few remaining stands of the ‘Big Woods’ forests in Minnesota. The park features rolling hills, kettle depressions, and ridges – perfect terrain for a challenging orientee ring meet! Meet at the visitors’ center for check-in and start/finish locations.

Lake Maria State Park is located west of Monticello, MN.

Is it time to remove dams from the Mississippi River gorge?

The Ford spillway. Dam removal discussions are ramping up in the Twin Cities, and for good reason. Just as the Army Corps of Engineers embarks on a study to determine future ownership and operation of the locks and dams in Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Mississippi river gorge was named to the 2018 list of American Rivers “10 Most Endangered Rivers.” Learn more, including FMR’s position and recent media coverage.
