It’s gardening season! MN Nature in St Paul, Minnesota, is beyond excited to share all the outdoor events and volunteer opportunities with you. The great state of Minnesota is green because of all the people who value the green.
It’s just a plain fact that waters, air, soil, and wildlife are impacted by our human presence—but we can help maintain a balance in nature. And in doing so we maintain balance in our own lives and enhance our health and well being.

Volunteer Event: Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific & Natural Area, Inver Grove Heights
6-8 p.m. Join Friends of the Mississippi River for a volunteer day. After a brief introduction and training, volunteers will remove the extremely invasive plant garlic mustard and will be certified to return to this highly protected area to continue this much-needed work. Natural Resource Renewal Event
10:00 a.m. to Noon. Join the volunteer-led Natural Resource Renewal Group for a Garlic Mustard pull. Garlic Mustard, tasty garden herb that it is, is an invasive species that chokes out plant diversity in woodlands. Volunteers will be pulling as much as possible in designated areas in lower Villa Park from 10:00 am to noon Saturday, May 12. If you are able to join us, please meet at the park shelter on Cohansey street at 10:00 am. Gloves, boots, pants (not shorts) and long sleeve shirts are recommended as it might be wet in areas and some nettle is coming up. Sunscreen and insect repellent is also recommended. Native plant seed will be available to sprinkle in the weeded areas.

Volunteer Event: Pull Garlic Mustard
6-8 p.m. Join Friends of the Mississippi River for a day of volunteer work. After a brief introduction and training, we’ll proceed to the river gorge sand flats, known for their large sandy beaches and wonderful river-edge view. Working alongside FMR staff, volunteers will remove garlic mustard – an exotic plant invading many areas of the river gorge and out-competing native plants that provide wildlife habitat. Hampton Woods Restoration Kick-off & Volunteer Event
6-8 p.m. Come be part of the first volunteer event at the largest continuous oak forest in Dakota County, Hampton Woods! Thanks to an FMR partnership with the state, Dakota County and local landowners, the 191-acre woods were recently protected as a Wildlife Management Area. Volunteers are needed to help with the first step in the restoration process, hand-pulling invasive species.
