The Story Tree (dibaajimowaatig) Preschool Program: Grandmother Winter by Phyllis Root
9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Young nature explorers are invited each Thursday to The Story Tree (dibaajimowaatig) preschool program. We will discover nature through a variety of activities like stories, crafts, games, and short walks. We will also have time to play in our new Nature Playscape. Children of all ages are welcome, but activities will be designed specifically for early learners. This is a series, so each program will have a different nature topic. Snowshoe or Chair Lacing Workshop $$$
9-3pm $150, neoprene binding (optional) $50. Get ready to explore winter by learning to lace your own pair of traditional wood frame Ojibwe-style snowshoes. Learn which knots to use and how to weave the decking onto the frame. Already have a pair of snowshoes? Then make a chair! This workshop (recommended for ages 10 and up with an adult) will consist of two consecutive day sessions. Call for chair information. Reservations and deposit by Nov 13, 2019. Snowshoe Lacing Workshop $$$
9-4pm $75 registration fee. Lace your own pair of snowshoes during this two day workshop. You will be provided with the equipment and instruction needed to lace your own traditional Ojibwe-style snowshoes. Learn this skill from an experienced instructor through this hands-on and rewarding workshop. This workshop is recommended for ages 10 and up will consist of two consecutive day sessions on November 23 and November 24 from 9am to 4pm at the Visitor Center.
Fee includes the snowshoe kit, materials and instruction, along with coffee, tea, water, and snacks. Rubber bindings are available to purchase at the park for $5/pair. Lunch will not be provided for the weekend workshop, so attendees should bring a sack lunch. Register by calling Lake Carlos State Park at (320) 852-7200.

Wreath-Making 101 $
$10 (Nov 23 only) If you’ve never made your own evergreen wreath, here’s an opportunity to learn how. You can also take yours home! Balsam, pine, and cedar boughs, wreath forms, and wire will be supplied, along with a demonstration and easy instructions. Bring your own decorations if you’d like to customize your wreath. Feasting Over Fire
12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (Nov 23 only) Step up your cold weather camping game! This program will uncover tips and tricks to making scrumptious food over the fire and give you information about the camping and lodging opportunities offered at Minnesota?s state parks. A live cooking demonstration will showcase equipment, tools, and methods for cooking. Whether you are a curious beginner or avid cook looking to add more skills to your arsenal, this program provides a neat glimpse into the wide world of campfire cooking. No registration required.
