The grant from the Minnesota Board of Water & Soil Resources focus area is the Cannon and Straight Rivers, and the goal is twofold:
1. 2015 Terrain analysis on the middle and lower Cannon River watershed (continuation of 2014 terrain analysis on the upper Cannon River watershed)
Upon completion, it’s the county’s hope that agencies like the Rice Soil Water and Conservation District can use this data to present to landowners while advising water quality improvements.
2. Ravine stabilization and best management practice feasibility study around Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
The results of the study would allow both the city of Faribault and Shattuck-St. Mary’s to make strategic long-range planning efforts and better their decision-making to improve water quality.
